Naturalisation

Naturalisation is the legal process by which individuals can acquire British citizenship. This process is available to eligible applicants who have demonstrated long-term settlement and commitment to the UK. Applicants who hold Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) can apply for naturalisation once they meet the qualifying criteria.

Eligibility Criteria for Naturalisation

To apply for British citizenship through naturalisation, applicants must meet the following requirements:

1. Residency and Settlement:

• Applicants must have resided in the UK for a minimum of 5 years under a qualifying immigration category.
• Applicants must have held Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) for at least 1 year prior to their naturalisation application.

2. Life in the UK Test:

• Applicants aged 18 and above must pass the Life in the UK test, which assesses knowledge of British traditions, laws, and culture.

3. Good Character Requirement:

• Applicants must have a clean criminal record, including no history of immigration offences, and must demonstrate good character.

4. Primary Residence:

• Applicants must demonstrate their intent to make the UK their primary home. This includes maintaining close ties to the UK and not exceeding time limits for absences during the qualifying period.
